Accessibility Statement

Last reviewed: May 2026

CaptionNerds is committed to making this website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We actively work to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and we pursue Level AAA where our platform allows.

What we have done

We have implemented the following accessibility features on this site:

Navigation and structure A skip-to-content link is available as the first keyboard-focusable element on every page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass the navigation and move directly to the main content.

Focus indicators Visible keyboard focus indicators are present on all interactive elements, including navigation links, buttons, and social media icons.

Contrast Text and background color combinations across the site have been selected to meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios. All interactive elements are styled to meet minimum size requirements for touch targets.

Reduced motion The site respects the user's operating system preference for reduced motion, suppressing animations and transitions when that preference is active.

Semantic structure Pages use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and descriptive link text throughout.

Known limitations

This website is built on Squarespace using the Byron template. Some accessibility issues are the result of how Squarespace's platform generates HTML and cannot be fully resolved through the customization options available to site owners. We have documented these transparently below.

Contrast checker false positives Automated accessibility checkers (including ANDI, WAVE, Lighthouse, and IBM Equal Access) report a contrast failure on text inside dark and bright-themed sections, describing both the text and background color as #ffffff. This is a known artifact of how Squarespace's Fluid Engine injects inline style blocks at the section level. Visually, all text in these sections renders as white on a dark teal background, which passes WCAG AA contrast requirements. The platform generates duplicate style element IDs (container-styles and override-container-styles) per section, which causes automated tools to misread the computed background. We have applied CSS overrides as a mitigation but cannot eliminate the underlying condition without platform-level changes from Squarespace.

Navigation landmark labels The site contains two navigation elements — the primary header navigation and the footer social media navigation — that automated tools flag for lacking unique accessible labels. Squarespace's Byron template does not expose an interface for adding aria-label attributes to these navigation regions, and the template-generated HTML cannot be directly edited. Both navigations are visually and structurally distinct; screen reader users can distinguish them by their position and content.

Social media links opening in new tabs The LinkedIn and Instagram links in the footer open in a new browser tab. The links carry aria-label attributes identifying the destination, but do not currently include explicit "opens in new tab" language within that label. We are aware of this and will update the aria-labels to include this notice.

Duplicate style element IDs Squarespace's Fluid Engine generates multiple style elements with identical IDs per page. This is a platform-generated condition outside our control and does not affect the functional accessibility of the page.

Deprecated HTML elements A deprecated HTML element (the <u> underline tag) appears in the footer, generated by Squarespace's link editor. This has no functional accessibility impact but is noted here for transparency.

SVG decorative elements Section divider SVG elements generated by Squarespace do not carry accessible names. These elements are purely decorative and do not convey information; they should carry aria-hidden="true". This attribute is applied by the platform and is not configurable by site owners at this time.

Ongoing work

We review accessibility on this site on an ongoing basis and address issues as platform tools allow. We use multiple automated checkers as part of our review process and supplement automated testing with manual keyboard and screen reader testing.
